Rose Rovine e Amanti |
| |
| |
| |
Stark:
Firstly, I'd like to ask you about the name of your project. Could
you explain me the meaning of those three elements: "Rose",
"Rovine" and "Amanti"? |
| |
Damiano:
"Shortly: Rose (Roses) is about beauty; Rovine (Ruins) about
ancient roman empire ruins, which means the cultural ruins and
lack of spirituality of our time; Amanti (Lovers) is the late
romantic element, and it is about love and death, or better the
death of love.
" |
| |
Tell me about your very first song that you've composed. Today,
are you proud or ashamed of it? |
| |
"Do you mean my ever first or the RR&A first song??? I don’t
remember but no regrets, even the rubbish is important to improve,
so no shame for anything at all." |
| |
Was there any turning point when you realized that you could
achieve something more than playing for a few friends? Or did you
know from the beginning that you'll release an album for the large
label, that you'll play live gigs with such legendary acts like
SOL INVICTUS? |
| |
"No turning point...at the beginnings I just looked for a real
label to promote my music. For me it’s very important to meet an
artist like Tony Wakeford, Andrew King and theirs musicians. It’s
always a big honour when I can collaborate and learn from other
artists (Belborn, Von Thronstahl, Sagittarius and Andrew King +
Sol Invictus...) I consider them as “real artists”, but I’m happy
because in this scene doesn’t exist any rock-star and no “pin-up”:
this is the “underground Europa”!" |
| |
How could you describe your music? Because I've got a problem with
it - the base is neofolk, there are some neoclassical elements,
but also even some rock and plenty of other musical influences...
| |
"I think this description is the best... add only: Italian
neo-folk, not for nationalism but because it smells Mediterranean
for lots of aspects." |
| |
Let's talk about "Rituale Romanum". Who is on the front cover?
What is the meaning of "3 1 3"? |
| |
"This
is the St. Archangel Michael, the angel who drived off Lucifer
(the devil). 313 A.C. is when Emperor Costantin made legal the
Christian religion in the Roman Empire." |
| |
Could you tell me something more about that title? What is that
Roman Ritual? |
| |
"In 1614 the Vatican compiled the book “Rituale Romanum”: this
explain how to do an exorcism, and still the II Council it wasn’t
touched. Then few things has been changed but it’s still the
official book for exorcism, and I think we need it!
" |
| |
| |
One of the songs is dedicated to Dersu Uzala. What is so special
in this character that you've decided to write a song about him?
| |
"Lots of things: he’s a sort of Sigfrido but without the heroic
tune. A simple man who has in himself the eternity. That character
means love and respect and control of Mother Nature; real
friendship; and Dersu Uzala is out of any organized system, he’s
the anti-communist and anti-capitalistic hero, he’s a real man
close to God." |
| |
Do you like other Akira Kurosawa movies? |
| |
"Lots of them yes!" |
| |
What about Theo van Gogh? Could you tell me about your fascination
of that controvential Dutch director? Which of his movies has the
greatest value for you? |
| |
"Who nowadays is considered controversial in Europe is just who is
not a conformist; I never saw any movie of his (Italian TV seems
not interested), but it’s real strange that in Europa a movie
director could be easily and brutally murdered in the heart of
Amsterdam for a documentary about Islamic women’s condition...
isn’t it??? What Holland and Europe has done??? Nothing, pssst be
in silence!!! Maybe our muslins could become angry. So this mean
we’re under the regime, under the control of the muslins. I think
is nice and worth, and in the name of tolerance if someone will do
a documentary about Islam we will kill him for them, so they have
no to waste their time. I love it!!!" |
| |
Tell me about your visit in Aachen. I suppose that it made really
powerful impression on you. You've dedicated the most beautiful
song on "Rituale Romanum" to that visit. |
| |
"Haaa...
I can’t! Such majestic visions...Charle Magne...Holy Roman
Empire...Christianity...and such wonderful town, medieval
smell..how could I describe...my song maybe can a little bit." |
| |
You've cooperated with one of the most controvential bands on the
scene. I'm talking about VON THRONSTAHL. Could you tell me about
your relationships with Josef K.? |
| |
"I respect a lot Josef K., he is my friend and he has been my
artistical support during the sessions of Rituale. I don’t think
VON THRONSTAHL are so controversial...but in Germany too many
things are handle as controversial and even dangerous! Sad sad
thing for artists..." |
| |
| |
Why there are no lyrics in the booklet of "Rituale Romanum"? I
have to tell you that I prefer to listen to the music and read the
lyrics in the same time, so I'm little disappointed because of
this.
| |
"Honestly I thought none could be interested in lyrics...but lots
are asking me the same...basically for me it’s important only the
music and create pictures... then don’t forget that 90% of the
lyrics are in Italian, few can understand. But in the next CD I’ll
put my lyrics I swear! ha ha ha!!!" |
| |
Tell me about your musical heroes. |
| |
"Looong list!
Bowie, Lucio Battisti...Robert Fripp, Iggy Pop...
Brittany Spears
Marylin Manson
and Jennifer Lopez of course!" |
| |
On "Rituale Romanum" you are using many European languages:
English, French, German, Italian... What is Europe for you?
| |
"A state of mind. Is our history, our writers, our thinkers, our
whores, painters, heroes and traitors, our food and wine and beer,
our mines, our glory and our wounds... gbut it isn’t Bruxelles
Europe which is only a satanic burocratic trick! Never trust in
such horrible dictature!" |
| |
Why in Italy there are so many bands that create dark, sad or
melancholic music? I've been in your country few years ago and I
have to say that people were happy, friendly, sun was shining ;)
Compeletly other climate than in Poland. |
| |
"Because we’re living in a gloomy age of grand delusion! Musicians
want to shoot some pics of this difficult era and this music is
one of the best vehicle! But yes, Italian dark audience is very
very small and Italy itself is not a good market for this kind of
music." |
| |
During my visit in Italy I felt in love in Florence. What a
beautiful city! Even Rome or Venice weren't so great. Will you
agree with me, or will you defend the capital of your country (and
your hometown if I'm not mistaken)? |
| |
"My hometown is ruled by burocratic rats! They’re unable to take
care of a city like Roma! Venice is the same: too much tourists,
too much business and too much chaos! But yes, Florence is closer
to real life, because is smaller and more easy to control, and I
think you loved such quite atmosphere, there is more time for art,
cafè, women and walk in Florence than in Roma or Venice. But all
in all I couldn’t live without my Roma, it is my blood!" |
| |
How do you see the future of Christianity in XXI century?
| |
"God only knows. But I’m not in fear, absolutely." |
| |
| |
You seem to be in good relationships with Holger of BELBORN. What
is your attitude to neopoganism in general? |
| |
"Good attitude for the “white neopaganism”. Holger is a well
cultured man, and I think it is worth to have a religious attitude
to life. In Christianity lots of ancient pagan elements are, so
there is a real and good power also in paganism...but it’s hard
not falling in misunderstanding: too often paganism is mixed-up
with Satanism or is used as synonym of antiChrist! This is not
true." |
| |
If there would be the possibility to travel in time, where would
you like to go?
| |
"Nowhere, I'd like to stay here and fight here." |
| |
I've seen some of pictures of your concerts, and I have to tell
you that Pamela Gargiuto is very beautiful woman. Which woman is
an ideal of beauty for you? |
| |
"Ha ha ! Pamela will be honoured for your kind words, yes she’s
lovely! I tell her!
Legs, the most important thing! Ha hah jokin'! I’m quite exigent,
not on a physical level but on a mental level. The problem of
nowadays women is that too often they feel to deny their female
nature to become independents or emancipated. Feminists teach that
to become equal a woman must get all the men’s vices: I think it’s
not simply silly but dangerous! Then I don’t want women become
equal: they must remain women. Equal rights could be nice maybe...
A gentle lady, educated and female is ok for me." |
| |
I'd like to ask you about future plans of ROSE ROVINE E AMANTI.
| |
"I
hope to play as much as I can but will be difficult because this
scene doesn’t need gigs...I’m workin’ on a new CD, London gig of
course with the split CD with Sol Invictus and Andrew King which
will be produced by Cold Spring for December. And I hope lots of
collaborations and some compilations form Israel and Poland (War
Office Propaganda) are coming. In few days should be out the mini
book+CD “Credo in unum Deum” out for TRINITA_MUSIC
(www.trinitas-music.it). I’m also self producing a limited 77
copies CD-r with good material a little bit weird as production,
out-taken tracks and some nice demos." |
| |
Thank you very much for your time, Damiano. Now you may say
whatever you want. Last words are yours. |
| |
"Happy
for this interview. Buy lots of Rituale Cds, otherwise Justin will
gonna kill me! Ha ha !!!" |
